Faculty Update and Clarification on Strategic Planning

December 21, 2012

Dear Faculty Colleagues:

As you finish up the work of the fall semester and get ready for the winter break, I am writing to give a brief recap of where we are in the strategic planning process. First, however, I want to clarify the role of our faculty and the role of the consulting firm the university has hired.

Rutgers Boards Approve Restructuring Act and UMDNJ Integration

November 19, 2012

Members of the Rutgers and UMDNJ Communities:

We have achieved a milestone in the advancement of higher education in New Jersey—one that will greatly benefit students, citizens, the health sciences, and the faculty and staff of our institutions as we become one university in service to New Jersey and the world.

Higher Education Bond Act Passes

November 7, 2012

Members of the Rutgers Community:

Congratulations! New Jersey voters by a 62 percent to 38 percent margin approved the ballot question to authorize the state to issue $750 million in new debt for higher education facilities. Passage of the enabling legislation and the ballot question were top priorities for Rutgers.

Recovering from the Storm

November 5, 2012

Members of the Rutgers Community:

Francis and I send our thoughts and prayers to all our students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have suffered the terrible effects of Hurricane Sandy and continue to deal with them. This was a historically devastating storm. Many people remain without heat and electricity. We’ve seen damage to homes and communities all over the state, and most tragically, the loss of life within Rutgers families. Our hearts are with you.

Message to Students Regarding Election Day

November 2, 2012

Dear Rutgers Students:

In the aftermath of the storm, many Rutgers students and families are still without electrical power, and some have sustained damage to their homes. I hope that you and your family are coping as well as possible under these difficult circumstances. Although Rutgers, too, sustained significant storm damage this week, all our campuses are now nearly back to normal operation and will be ready for Monday.

Rutgers Against Hunger's 2012 Adopt-A-Family Campaign

Members of the Rutgers Community:

I am pleased to announce the official start of the fourth annual Adopt-A-Family campaign sponsored by Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH). Since 2009, your generosity has enabled us to sponsor almost 500 New Jersey families struggling with hunger and poverty, giving them a brighter holiday season. It has been a marvelous response in the Rutgers spirit of service, and I hope our university community will again participate in this worthwhile project.

Reaching for Greatness

Robert L. Barchi, President
As published in the Fall 2012 issue of Rutgers Magazine

Hello, Rutgers family and friends! As a Jersey boy from Westfield, I consider it a privilege to be joining this community at such an exciting time in its remarkable history. I have immersed myself in Rutgers over the past several months, and as much as I thought I knew about the place, I have grown even more impressed by the strength and breadth of this university.
