Dr. Barchi is a neuroscientist, a neurologist, and an educator. He previously served as president of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and as provost and chief academic officer of the University of Pennsylvania.

    Dr. Barchi addresses the Board of Governors after the announcement of his appointment as Rutgers University's 20th president. During Dr. Barchi's tenure at Thomas Jefferson, the university increased enrollment 51 percent and ebarked on a fundraising campaign that helped establish 22 endowed professorships and 50 endowed scholarships.

    Dr. Barchi is married to Francis Harper Barchi, a senior fellow in the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. The Barchis have four adult children. Dr. Barchi enjoys collecting and conserving timepieces from the 17th and 18th centuries and designs and constructs his own precision clocks.
