Two annual programs established by President Richard L. McCormick showcase the commitment of Rutgers faculty to New Jersey and its citizens through their research and service activities. Service to the state is one of the key elements in President McCormick's effort to connect Rutgers more deeply to the communities beyond its campuses.
President's Program
The President’s Program for Research in Service to New Jersey provides seed funding for innovative proposals designed to apply the results of university research to serve New Jersey’s citizens and institutions. Up to five exemplary proposals are funded each year, with a maximum budget of $10,000 for any one project.
Proposals are welcome from full-time faculty at any rank, in all schools, universitywide. The key consideration is the extent to which faculty research can be translated into service for the benefit of New Jersey and its citizens.
President's Award
The President’s Award for Research in Service to New Jersey recognizes the exemplary work of a distinguished faculty member whose research has had a direct and demonstrable positive impact on the citizens of our state. This annual award includes a research account of $5,000 for the faculty member’s use. Nominations are solicited each year, and all full-time faculty are eligible.
A committee of reviewers from the Camden, New Brunswick,
and Newark campuses oversees the allocation of seed funding
for innovative projects and the selection of the recipient
of the President’s Award. Awardees are announced
each spring. Questions about either program may be
directed to Roberta Leslie by email or
by phone at 732-932-8792.
